Aaron Coleman

Aaron is a modern mixed media artist out of Kansas City, Missouri.  He grew up in the Midwest and aspired to be an architect from early age.  In 2006, Aaron graduated with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Kansas State University.  He had a short stint at a firm in Southern California before the recession hit in 2008.  From there Aaron had over two years of searching.  He went down many paths perceived as dead ends, and decided it was time to become a full time artist.

Aaron set up a studio in his father’s dilapidated workshop and began experimenting; experimenting with color, light, form, and texture.  A body of work was developed and Aaron got his work in front of the public.  In the Spring of 2011 Aaron set up a “makeshift” studio in Santa Fe, NM and worked in solitude soaking in the sunsets and developing his craft.  In Winter of 2012 Aaron moved back his roots in the Midwest and constructed his dream studio in Kansas City.  The unrestricted creative flow has never stopped and has now become an integral part of Aaron’s “being”

This work is an interpretation of the patterns occurring all around us.  These patterns are seen throughout our constructed environments and our natural world.  They are found in the kaleidoscope of hues seen on the backs of your eyelids, in the structured chaos of gases far out on the edges of the universe, and in the repetitive yet various character of our own clustering of cities on the Earth’s surface.   When we begin to coalesce and overlay these observations it seems an archetypal design begins to emerge.

I strive to communicate this archetypal design through each piece.  An array of materials are being used in unconventional ways; allowing each material to exhibit its own unique properties.  The process is constantly evolving. refining, and becoming more sophisticated.   Each piece seemingly having its own energy, its own luminous light, and its own message to convey.  In reality it is up to viewer to interpret the visual art I have created for them.
